Hemophilia is a rare, inherited blood clotting disorder for which there is currently no cure. People with hemophilia are deficient in one of the key proteins factor VIII (hemophilia A) or factor IX (hemophilia B) that are vital in the clotting cascade to prevent bleeding. Both forms of hemophilia are characterized by spontaneous hemorrhages or prolonged bleeding, typically into joints and soft tissue.
"We are delighted to offer this community resource, which not only provides information but also helps facilitate the exchange of ideas among patients, family members, and health care professionals," said Robert J. Dufour, Assistant Vice President & Global Business Manager Hemophilia at Wyeth.
